In a significant advance to centralize our clinical trials across Pitt and UPMC, the Pitt Health Sciences Clinical Trials Office (CTO), established in 2025, operates under a collaborative and hybrid model, bringing together researchers, clinicians, industry partners, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
Our office is dedicated to the meticulous coordination and support of clinical trial operations. Clinical trials are systematic research studies conducted with human participants to evaluate the efficacy and safety of medical, surgical or behavioral interventions. They are essential for determining the viability of new treatments, medications or procedures before they become widely available.
